The design challenge was not simply to illustrate health information, but to create a visual language that could carry a conversation. Built on Ekjut’s established Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) methodology, Noora Health translated complex NCD topics into locally recognisable characters, environments, picture card narratives and facilitator guides for communities in rural Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, India. Illustration, layout, sequencing, scale and visual hierarchy were designed around how ASHAs facilitate group discussions in real settings. The picture cards, Phase 1 and Phase 2 guidebooks, facilitator diary and custom carry bag were developed as one coherent visual system, making the content easy to navigate, handle and use in the field. In the pilot at Andhra Pradesh, 35 ASHAs across 21 villages conducted 178 sessions reaching 5,530 participants, showing how visual design can make complex health information easier to recognise, discuss and act on.
