Description
Typography anchors Kowloon Tiger’s visual identity. To give the brand an authentic street-side feel, we built a custom typeface entirely from scratch. The inspiration came directly from Indonesian food carts. The typography on these carts has a distinct Western flair, reminiscent of Tuscan and early European woodtype. The letters are bold, heavily stroked, and irregularly hand-cut from vinyl stickers. To capture that exact unpolished energy, we skipped the digital drawing board and took an analog approach. We physically hand-cut each letter out of paper with scissors to mimic the organic, imperfect edges of the original vinyl stickers. We then digitally traced these shapes and coded them into a working font while including alternate glyphs. This custom type adds to the brands gritty narrative. Its rugged, handcrafted edges give the bar a raw visual language that perfectly matches its playful, underworld-inspired theme.
