Mandawa is a small town in Rajasthan, once a stop on old trade routes to China and the Middle East. Its walls are covered in old paintings, called frescoes, made by artists and traders long ago. People now call it the “Open Art Gallery.” Chitragaatha is an animated short film about Mandawa. But instead of showing the paintings alone, it tells the story of Gopal Singh Gaud, a local camel guide. He talks simply about his home and his work. The film uses his words to guide the story. The animation is made in the same colours as Mandawa’s wall paintings - yellow, red, and blue. The characters and scenes move like the old frescoes have come to life. These wall paintings once showed kings and gods. In this film, that same style is used to show an ordinary man instead. The message is simple: a person who loves their home and their work deserves to be seen with the same respect as any king or god. Chitragaatha is about people, and their quiet connection to the place they call home.
