Description
The sounds of a celebration that means something else entirely. Sound in this film operates on two registers simultaneously. On the surface, it carries the familiar audio world of a North Indian wedding procession — the brass band, the rhythm that signals celebration. Underneath, it carries the weight of everything the audience gradually comes to understand that celebration actually means. National Award-winning sound designer Anish John builds tension through contrast. The father's interior world is rendered in ambient quietness, muffled voices and the texture of a life lived under pressure. Against this, the approaching baraat grows louder as its true purpose draws closer to being revealed. The voices echoing in the father's mind are a key sound design element layered to feel like intrusive social pressure , overlapping and insistent. When the procession finally arrives, the full sonic register of the baraat hits with the force of a decision that can no longer be undone.
