Baatan Hi Baatan Mein (Love In A Few Words) is the story of Aasha and Manoj – strangers bound by an arranged marriage. As Manoj leaves for work a day after his marriage, he contemplates calling her but not knowing what to say, hesitates. His workmate tells him to use WhatsApp’s Voice Note. His awkward first message catches Aasha by surprise but that marks the beginning of their love story. Unlike most commercial work in India, this script could only be brought to life with real, raw, and rural world-building. That world couldn’t be built without casting that was truly authentic to this milieu. For both the protagonists and the supporting cast, we looked for actors who had experience with folk theatre. The casting call also asked them to talk about their upbringing in auditions, we were looking for actors with deep roots in the heartland. The casting also called for the know-how of a specific Awadhi dialect that is prevalent around North-Central Madhya Pradesh.
