Description
As mainstream music replaced traditional sounds, India’s native instruments vanished from youth listening. Coke Studio Bharat brought them back by making them foundational elements of new mainstream hits. We challenged three contemporary composers to build songs using forgotten instruments as structural, not ornamental, elements. In tracks like 'Ishq Bawla', 'Holo Lolo' and 'Meetha Khaara', ancient instruments were not just referenced; they became the hook, rhythm, and bass. The craft was to integrate these acoustic sounds into modern production without losing their character. A connected microsite allowed listeners to explore the lineage and cultural story behind each instrument, turning passive listening into active discovery. The result was a scalable model for cultural preservation, using the power of replay to make endangered sounds heard, remembered, and loved again.
