Description
It’s a sad reality that 1 in 2 Indians still use old, fraying toothbrushes that can severely harm oral health. So, we collected such toothbrushes from bathrooms across India, transforming them into a new flower species: Indianis Dentris. These ‘flowers’, indistinguishable from real ones, were first sighted at a photo exhibition held at the Mumbai Botanical Garden and Zoo - Mumbai’s flagship sanctuary for rare and exotic plant species. As national media covered the event, people flocked to witness history in the making. Placed in a setting that perfectly legitimised the ‘discovery’, the illusion was reinforced with geo-coordinates, intriguing write-ups, and a video of the flowers blooming – which finally revealed the ugly toothbrushes behind them. This prompted a simple yet unsettling question: “Is my toothbrush an Indianis Dentris too?”. And at this moment, each film led viewers to a microsite where they could immediately buy a new toothbrush.
