Description
India is home to 63 million deaf citizens, yet Indian Sign Language (ISL) remains largely invisible. Inclusion historically meant the deaf adapting to the hearing majority, rarely the other way around. The challenge was making ISL relevant, aspirational, and culturally owned by Gen Z. The Right Signs, a collaboration between the Signing Hand Foundation, Josh (VerSe Innovation), and Lucifer Music, embedded ISL into rap culture by guiding emerging artists to reinterpret music videos entirely in ISL, replacing gang signs with sign language. Deaf community members guided and helped shoot the content. Fans didn’t just watch. They learned, recreated, and shared signs themselves, turning passive audiences into participants. The movement generated massive organic reach, nationwide earned media coverage, trending music content and fan-led sign-back participation. By turning influence into inclusion, The Right Signs made ISL visible, shareable, and socially adopted as a language of belonging.
