Description
A simple truth was hiding in plain sight. Words like “hot”, “spicy”, “sizzling”, meant for food, had become part of how women are described. As part of India Gate’s #NotYourBiryani campaign this Women’s Day, spoken word artist Nayab Midha used poetry to take them back. In a culture where language shapes respect, poetry became the most powerful medium. Rooted in Indian values of dignity and expression, her piece did not confront, it reframed. Line by line, it gently shifted these words from objectification to their rightful place, the plate, making audiences pause and rethink everyday language. The film crossed 32 million views, but more importantly, sparked over half a million shares, turning a performance into a movement people chose to carry forward. Amplified through hundreds of nano and micro creators and embedded into meme culture, the idea moved beyond a film into everyday conversation. Because sometimes, change begins with how we speak.
