Description
1 in 5 Indian school children suffer from blurry vision. This issue is most felt in non-urban India. Children in these regions go on with life thinking their poor vision is normal. Parents on the other hand, believe vision problems only come with age. As a result, children are rarely ever taken for an eye-test. So we created a preliminary vision screening that could be taken to them. We designed the Ek Tara Test, inspired by an ancient method used to test hunters’ eyesight using the stars. Our glow-in-the-dark star spotting aid turned the simple act of stargazing into vision screening in 140+ schools across 25 towns in India, testing over 100,000 children. Through India’s leading children’s comic publication, Tinkle, the Ek Tara Test was also made accessible to over 1.2M children across the country through online orders. To ensure it cut across India’s diverse cultural landscape we ensured every region received the Ek Tara Test card in their local languages.
