Description
1 in 5 Indian school children suffer from blurry vision. They go on with life thinking their poor vision is normal. Hence, these issues remain undetected and is felt most in non-urban India. Inspired by an ancient method used to test hunters’ eyesight using the stars, we created the Ek Tara Test. An innovative glow-in-the-dark star spotting aid that turned the simple act of stargazing into vision screening. The Ek Tara Project directly targeted children at vision risk by distributing a simple printed card that was innovated to be a playful vision screening experience. The activation took place across 140+ schools in India. The children who had blurry vision were identified and given a free, complete eye test by our optometrists. The test cards were also made available online for a negligible price of Re. 1 (approx. 1 cent) and through India’s most popular children’s publication, Tinkle, was made accessible to more to 1.2M+ children across Indian homes.
