During Republic Day, Flipkart was running exciting offers on large appliances and wanted to make the entire country aware of them. We began by asking a simple question: what would make someone upgrade from an old, faithful appliance that has served them for years? Soon we realized that our biggest hurdle was the deeply ingrained Indian habit of using appliances until their very last breath often with a slap or two to keep them going. Much to our surprise, this very hurdle became our creative device, helping us drive home the message that large appliances were available on Flipkart at incredibly low prices. With the creative idea in place all that was now left was to find the perfect face for the campaign which we thought could be none other than Harbhajan Singh. We got him to teach people the “right” way to slap appliances to keep them running longer. The film ends with his techniques failing. Flipkart then steps in to highlight its deals, ensuring no one has to resort to slapping.
