Description
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Asian Paints Sharad Samman, our award for Pujo artistry, we illustrated 40 years of cultural evolution—not on paper, but on the move. Our main canvas: 40 of Kolkata’s iconic yellow taxis. We commissioned four contemporary artists—Vikramjit Paul, Meenakshi Sengupta, Sayan Mukherjee, and Srishti Guptaroy—to create 40 unique, hand-painted illustrations. Each one transformed a taxi into a time capsule, capturing the distinct artistic soul of a year in Durga Pujo’s history, from 1985 to 2025. The project also included a stylized film where the animation and illustration style evolved to represent each decade. This wasn't illustration as decoration; it was illustration as the core experience. The fleet became a celebrated 'rolling museum,' turning vehicles into moving storybooks. Our work wasn't just seen; it was sought after, ridden in, and shared, proving illustration can be the primary driver of an immersive cultural phenomenon.
