Description
The Indian hip-hop scene is evolving and redefining itself. *Thugs from Amritsar* is a limited-edition vinyl package for the debut album by Pataka Boys and the first vinyl release from Azadi Records. Conceived as a cultural artefact rather than a record sleeve, the packaging explores the Indian diasporic experience through typography, print, and materiality. As designers, rappers and word-smiths, typography became our golden thread A bespoke Gurmukhi logotype and custom Latin display typeface were developed alongside vernacular typography inspired by the streets of Amritsar, Mumbai, London, and Delhi. Archival imagery, vintage Punjabi newspapers, and references to Indian currency are layered with contemporary photography to explore tensions of nostalgia, migration, colonialism, dual identity, and rebellion. The result is a collectible object that extends the album's narrative beyond music.
