Description
In many ways, the internet is like a maidan, a shared space open to all who have access, yet each of its visitors have a unique experience. Its winding trails, unexplored patches and obstacles influence how young people navigate it and simultaneously carve spaces for themselves in it. To understand how young Indians use and experience the vast maidan of the internet, ‘Digital Lives of Young Indians’ was born–an interactive and experiential showcase of key learnings from a survey of 200 people (aged 13 to 18) from government schools and training institutes (ITIs) in India, conducted by Quest Alliance. It is designed to be experiential to allow viewers to interact with characters on the maidan and read stories such as ‘There is a human behind YouTube’ to ‘Finding romance online.’ One can explore and understand how young people form relationships, the way they learn, and how they express their identities on the internet using the metaphor of a physical, yet fantastical, public space.
