If an AI model never sees a kitchen that sometimes cooks with leaves instead of pans, it will never generate one. We decided to change that. Built with contributions from communities across ten endangered Indic languages, this book documents highly seasonal and hyperlocal recipes as living records of memory, landscape, and traditions, in their own words. In capturing over 1,000 regional recipes with text, audio and images, Our data workers built ELR-1000, a culturally grounded dataset intended to train AI models. We felt this knowledge shouldn't remain only in datasets, it deserved to be held, shared, and celebrated. From Hands That Feed is our way of honouring our 1000 contributors, who receive royalties on every sale of the book.
