Description
At its core, Subko’s Riverdale project is a story of a farm. It is an attempt to bring coffee producers Prakshan & Mohan Balaraman’s life’s work to the global stage. When we started exploring ideas, I was sure of one thing — that a farm (or any story of agriculture) runs far deeper and wider than its land. Riverdale Estate is its terroir, yes, but it is also the years that precede its harvest, the family that stewards the grounds, the flora and fauna that keep coffee company, the textiles and traditions that create the cultural fabric of a region. You see all these on the box. Motifs of the Kanjeevaram weave, an illustration of the Bharatnatyam mudra, old photographs of the region, and Tamil scripts form the bedrock of this project. And center stage sits the Crested Serpent Eagle — the estate’s mascot — taking flight through a scanimation device. Designed to champion the pride of Yercaud, Tamil Nadu. Subko, for Riverdale Estate. And Riverdale Estate, for all.
