Shahar is a citizen-led initiative in Pune that believes every street has two versions: how it is now and how it could be. Rather than waiting for problems to be fixed one complaint at a time, Shahar partners with citizens and the municipal corporation to demonstrate meaningful change. It begins with “Anchor Spots,” busy areas transformed completely to show how streets can be cleaner, greener, safer, and more welcoming. The “Shahar Kit” provides local groups with tools like paint, planters, signage, design guidelines, and a permissions checklist, enabling them to create similar changes independently. “Shahar Kendras” connect citizens with Pune’s administrative wards and local corporators, turning individual efforts into organized citywide action. Shahar tracks and shares improvements publicly, creating a living map of Pune’s progress, street by street. Shahar is about citizens and government working together to improve the city practically and locally, one neighborhood at a time.
